Amazon Affiliate Program

Details are below, but if you shop at Amazon you can help veterans' organizations at no cost to you.  It's a simple three step process:

  1. http://usna2002.org/amazon (bookmark it!)
  2. Buy anything (or add it to your cart if you're buying multiple things)
  3. What to buy something else? REPEAT STEP 1. The affiliate tracking code only stays active until you purchase a product or add it to your cart, but it can be renewed as many times as necessary.

That's it!

If you forget until the item is in your cart, you'll need to remove it, visit the link, and then re-add it for us to get the affiliate money.

Background

The Amazon Affiliate program provides a percentage of all sales to sites that send it traffic. Depending on volume and excepting some categories of products, the percentage can be as high as 8.5%. We've earned several thousand dollars total – and $970.41 in 2014 – from book sales and the sales of everything from car parts to watches, computers to diapers. As with all other income, all of this money goes to veterans organizations!

Amazon tracks this traffic with a small code at the end of a URL that is visible in the address bar. By using http://usna2002.org/amazon you're helping us accomplish our mission of helping veterans, their families, and our communities. Thank you!

What about Amazon smile?

Amazon has a program – Amazon Smile – that supports participating charities. This is separate from the affiliate program, and is a flat 0.5% of the amount of the purchase. However, the affiliate code is stripped if we direct you to Amazon Smile. In other words, we have to choose one program or the other, and the Affiliate program is far more generous!
